Foreign Affairs Minister Ravi Karunanayake should resign without waiting for the no-confidence motion which would be brought against him for allegedly indulging in funds obtained from the Central Bank (CB) bond sale, the joint opposition said yesterday.

JO MP Bandula Gunawardena said they were currently collecting documents as evidence to include in the motion.

“A previous no-confidence motion against the minister has been included in the parliamentary agenda for submitting incorrect information to Parliament in the Budget when he was Finance Minister. We hope to submit a fresh no-confidence motion at the next parliamentary session after collecting the requisite signatures,” he told a news briefing.

He said Sri Lanka Freedom Party (SLFP) MPs had informed the JO that they would support such a motion against Minister Karunanayake when it was submitted in Parliament.

“A majority of UNP MPs also expressed their support to a no-confidence motion. However, UNP sources said, at least three MPs and three non-cabinet ministers from the UNP had supported Arjun Aloysius and Perpetual Treasuries Limited after being paid by the company for this purpose,” the MP said.

He said Minister Karunanayake was the only minister who never felt any remorse or fear about doing wrong.
