Project launched to popularize Carbonic fertilizer

The Ministry of Megapolis and Western Development revealed yesterday that 400 metric tons of garbage collected from the areas of Colombo Municipal Council and suburbs were converted properly to Carbonic fertilizer by the Sri Lanka Land Reclamation and Development Corporation in collaboration with the Colombo Municipal Council and other Urban Councils.

The quality of the fertilizer has been certified and endorsed by the Institution of Industries and Technology. Minister said that carbonic fertilizer production would improve its quality when they launch its second stage. By this system it will avert the era of sending waste to ocean, cannels, and wetlands and make

the era of fruitful lands.   


Minister of Western Development Patali Champika Ranawaka expressed his views in the inauguration programme of “Mihijaya” compost fertilizer manufacturing project on a commercial basis, held at  the Colombo Municipal Council. Ministry of Megapolis and Western Development, Ministry of Local Government, Western Provincial Council, Colombo Municipal Council and Sri Lanka Land Reclamation and Development Corporation got together and launched this programme on the instruction and guidance of Megapolis and Western Development Ministry.   


He thanked to all the officers of the Municipal Councils of Colombo, Kaduwela, Moratuwa, Kotte, and Urban Councils of Mullayriyawa, Kotikawatta, Kelaniya, Wattala including the Officers of the Pradeshiya Sabha.   


Every citizen has a responsibility about proper garbage disposal and it is not the only responsibility of the government.
