Former President Mahinda Rajapaksa yesterday advised his predecessor Chandrika Bandaranaike Kumaratunga not to keep ‘hatred and jealousy’ in her heart.

Q: Is Ms. Kumaratunga educated?

A: I’m not going to comment on that. You better ask her.

Q: But Minister S. B. Dissanayake has commented on that.

A: Exactly, you should ask SB about that then.

Responding to a journalist following an event held at the Bandaranaike Memorial International Conference Hall (BMICH), Mr. Rajapaksa suggested that senility has made his predecessor, former President Kumaratunga,  bitter and that had made her say ‘hateful’ things about him.

He said if there was a question about whether he had the educational qualifications, a charge made by Ms. Kumaratunga, it should have been raised by the judges of the Supreme Court as he was sworn-in as a lawyer in the Supreme Court.

“She is behaving like this, with jealousy and hatred, as she gets old. Don’t stoop to this level Chandrika (mehema epa Chandrika, mehema epa). That’s all I have to say,” he said.

The rest of the question and answer session went as follows,

Q: Is Ms. Kumaratunga educated?

A: I’m not going to comment on that. You better ask her.

Q: But Minister S. B. Dissanayake has commented on that.

A: Exactly, you should ask SB about that then.

Over the weekend, former President Kumaratunga had alleged that none of the Rajapaksas possessed education levels that exceeded grade eight.
