Product produced at their site in Kerawalapitiya

dsfdfg The Sri Lanka Land Reclamation and Development Corporation (SLLRDC) announced yesterday that the compost produced at their site in Kerawalapitiya was now available in the market under the brand name ‘Mihijaya’.

The statement went on to say that the first stock of compost from the plant was produced using biodegradable waste collected after the new garbage collection system was put in place.

Minister of Megapolis and Western Development Champika Ranawaka and  Provincial Councils and Local Governments Minister Faiszer Musthapha were present on the occasion in which the new product was released to the market.  A committee was appointed by the President and Prime Minister after the Meethotamulla tragedy in April to resolve the vexing issue of garbage disposal in the country.

The committee comprised of Ministers Ranawaka and Musthapha, Western Province Chief Minister Isuru Devapriya and high ranking officials from government organisations connected to garbage disposal.

Under the guidance of the committee the SLLRDC maintains the facility which takes in approximately 450- 500 tonnes of waste which was used to produce compost, the statement said.
