Residents and pedestrians in Gorakana yesterday stated that the haphazard placement of large concrete slabs which were used during the renovation of the drainage lines along the old Panadura road has become a hassle to all.

We are happy that they fixed that, but now we have another problem and that is these large concrete slabs that have been left everywhere

Many said the slabs were left haphazardly along the road after the drains were renovated. Residents said authorities re-fixed the drains along the road after they pointed out that instead of making space water to flow it only stagnated water from the slightest rain.    “We are happy that they fixed that, but now we have another problem and that is these large concrete slabs that have been left everywhere,” they said.

Residents said the water was stagnant despite the renovation work carried out previously because authorities had not removed the unauthorized constructions blocking the flow of water nor had the authorizes properly calculated the slope for the flow of water.
“They have fixed the exact slope for the water to flow but they have not removed unauthorized constructions which block the flow of water to the Bolgoda lake,” several residents said.

The concrete slabs which were removed from the drain to fix they had before, left in a haphazard manner across the road was a inconvenience not just to residents trying to get into their homes but also to employees trying to get into their work establishments in the area, they said.
