Passengers travelling to Galle and Matara daily by train in the evening said they had been facing inconvenience due to the heavy congestion in the Matara bound express that leaves Colombo Fort at 6p.m. which is the last train to Matara.

They pointed out that thousands of passengers travelling to Moratuwa and Panadura who board the train create a heavy congestion leaving behind the Matara, and Galle bound passengers. They said the train is over crowded with passengers to Moratuwa and Panadura when it reaches Slave Island and it is not possible for the passengers travelling to distant areas to board the train.

They requested the General Manager of Railways and the Operations Superintendent to run this train express until Moratuwa to prevent the congestion. He pointed out that there were several trains in the evening to Moratuwa and Panadura and that the Matara bound express train, which is a long distance train, should not stop at Moratuwa causing inconvenience to the Matara and Galle bound passengers.
