The Meteorology Department yesterday predicted that Colombo and a large part of the Western province will experience intermittent rains or thunder showers today  and tomorrow.

The Department said the rain experienced during the past several days was the tail end of the South Eastern Monsoon.

However, the Kalutara District is expected to experience fairly heavy rainfall between 75 to 100 mm. The showers are expected after 2 p.m, the Department added.    Predicting the weather for other parts of the country, the Department said that showers or thundershowers will occur at times in the Western, Southern, Sabaragamuwa and Central provinces with the North-Western province experiencing several spells of showers.

Fairly heavy falls (about 75-100 mm) are expected at some places, particularly in the Sabaragamuwa, Central and Uva provinces and in Kaluthara, Galle, Matara, Polonnaruwa and Batticaloa districts.   The Department also said that there may be temporary localized strong winds during thundershowers and requested the general public to take adequate precautions to minimize damage caused by lightning activities.
