The rainy condition, especially in southwestern parts of the country, is expected to increase from today until Thursday (14), the Meteorology Department said yesterday.

Duty Forecaster Nimal Bandara told the Daily Mirror that there was a high possibility of rains or thunder showers in the Western, Southern, Sabaragamuwa, Central and Northwestern Provinces, while the other parts of the country would experience evening thunder showers.

“We are at the end of the Southwest monsoon therefore the showery conditions are expected to develop in the coming days,” he said. Meanwhile, the Ratnapura District is expected to receive 50 to 100mm of rainfall today.
The Met. Dept. warned of fairly rough winds up to 50 Kmph in the sea area off the coast extending from Galle to Pottuvil via Hambantota.

It also said that showers or thunder showers could occur in sea areas in North and East during the evening and night.

Further it said that inter-monsoon was to be triggered in late September and over 50 mm rainfall could be expected islandwide thereafter. It also said that heavy showers would be experienced during the evenings for about two hours, once the inter-monsoon sets in.
