President Maithripala Sirisena yesterday sacked Deputy Minister of Tourism Development and Christian Religious Affairs,  Arundika Fernando from his portfolio with immediate effect.

He was sacked with the powers vested in the President by the Constitution of the Democratic Socialist Republic of. Sri Lanka under the clause 46 (3) (a), a communique issued by the Presidential Secretariat said.

It came into effect from yesterday, the communique added. Meanwhile, the SLFP Central Committee will issue a show cause note to MP Fernando for alleged misconduct, violation of the party constitution and scheming against the party.  “The CC will summon Mr. Fernando and conduct a formal inquiry on those allegations levelled against him,” a senior minister told Daily Mirror.

Mr. Fernando first entered Parliament from the Puttalam District at the 2010 general elections and returned to Parliament at the August 2015 general elections.
