DM-14-11Pakistan defeated a star studded World XI by 20 runs in the first of three Twenty20 internationals played at the Gaddafi Stadium in Lahore yesterday.

The World XI chasing Pakistan’s total of 197 runs managed to score only 177 for seven wickets from their 20 overs.
Sohail Khan returned outstanding figures of two wickets for 28 runs for Pakistan.

Earlier Pakistan, sent into bat by the World XI, hit a formidable 197 for five from their 20 overs.

One-drop batsman Babar Azam top-scored with a 52-ball 86 studded with 10 boundaries and two sixes.

He also added 122 runs for the second wicket with Ahmed Shehzad who made 39 with the aid of three boundaries.

Azam and Shehzad steadied the innings through some intelligent batting after the home side gad lost their first wicket in the fourth delivery of the innings.

Shoiab Malik then added the finishing touches in style with a 20-ball knock of 38 which included two sixes and four boundaries.
Thisara Perera was the most successful bowler for the World XI but his two wickets cost him as many as 51 runs from his four over spell.

In addition, Morne Morkel, Ben Cutting and Imran Tahir captured a wicket each for the World XI.

The second and third matches are also in Lahore on Wednesday and Thursday.
