Gateway, Lyceum triumph on day two

Lyceum International School Wattala and Gateway College Colombo emerged victorious on day two of the Inter-International Schools Basketball Championship – 2017 continued at the British School in Colombo Indoor Courts yesterday. 


Royal Institute went up against Gateway College Colombo in the Boys Group ‘B’ fixture and they were beaten comfortably with the final scores reading 74-49. 


Mirtesh top scored for the winners with 19 points. Royal Institute took a 25-22 lead at half-time but Gateway came back in the remaining two quarters, scoring 52 points while limiting their opponents to 24. 


In the second game, Gateway College Colombo managed to beat Colombo International School Colombo (CISC) 42-33 in their Girls’ Group ‘B’ fixture. 


CISC’s Leia Hamza chipped in with 20 points but her efforts were in vain as she watched her team drown. Kiara Ekanayake top scored for the winners with 15 points.


In the final game of the day, the CISC were beaten by Lyceum International School Wattala, in a Boys Tournament match with the final scores reading 85-45. 


Lyceum’s Rashan Perera contributed with 21 points while CISC’s Shivanga de Silva scored 28 for the losers. 


Lyceum led 38 points to 19 after the end of the first two quarters, and went on to win the game comfortably at the end.
