The first night safari park inaugurated

The First Night Safari Park in the Dehiwala Zoo was inaugurated recently by the Minister of Willdlife and Buddha Sasana Gamini Jayawickreme Perera.  

The Safari Park established by Director General of the Zoological Gardens Department Dhammika Malsinghe and the staff according to a concept of the minister .  

Addressing the ceremony the minister said several years ago he first visited the zoo to find most of the animal were subject to suffering for want of adequate space in their cages for pleasure of the visitors. He pointed out that it was said that the need to protect the rights of animal had been ignored by the people who often talked about human rights.   




“The Safari park will create an environment for the nocturnal animals to live in a natural habitat without being trapped in small cages. This would protect their right to live and breed freely in natural environments. The ministry has taken step to inaugurate similar Safari Park in Pinnawala and one such would be established on 200 acre land in Kandy.” he said.  

A fee of Rs.200 from elders, Rs.100 from children will be levied for entry to the Safari park that will be open from 7.00 p.m. to 10.00 p.m. on Friday, Saturday and Sunday. The fee levied from tourists was yet to be decided.   

Deputy Minister of State Enterprises Development Iran Wickremeratne too addressed the ceremony.
