Mercedes Benz Fashion Week Sri Lanka 2018

Graduating from fashion runways to an official fully fledged entire week of fashion, the AOD along with its principal sponsor DIMO Mercedes Benz is celebrating the launch of Mercedes Benz Fashion Week Sri Lanka to be held between 27-30 October 2017 at the Mercedes-Benz Centre Dimo 800, Colombo 2.

The event aims to highlight Sri Lanka’s massive apparel manufacturing industry and its impressive capabilities as it transforms to deliver as  a  full spectrum service destination for fashion along with events curated around showcasing the entire nation’s fashion heritage, emerging design talent and upcoming brands. 


Speaking at the launch, founder of AOD Linda Speldewinde said that the apparel industry is constantly innovating and evolving and is one of the most powerful industries in Sri Lanka. “AOD creates designers and takes fashion to the grassroots. We have a holistic approach to fashion. This is what is being showcased at the Mercedes Benz Fashion Week Sri Lanka.

fgtghGetting to this stage took us nine years and now we have a platform with a global audience to show the world what Sri Lanka can do in terms of fashion, design and manufacturing. We want to position Sri Lanka as a design innovation hub and this platforms helps us in achieving this” she said.

Speaking on one of the success stories of AOD and Mercedes Benz Fashion Runways the precursor to Mercedes Benz Fashion Week, Linda added that Amesh Wijesekara an award winner at the Mercedes Benz Fashion Runways won the International Student Award at the London Fashion Week Graduate Fashion Week in 2016 and in 2017 he was selected to present his collection Sri at Fashion Scout an integral part of London Fashion Week. He has brought immense recognition to design talent in Sri Lanka and this is just one aspect of what we want to achieve by having the Mercedes Benz Fashion Week. 


Present at the launch were Eran Wickramaratne, State Minister of Finance and Mass Media, Ranjith Pandithage Chairman DIMO, Deshal De Mel, Economic Advisor, Ministry of Finance, Sharad Amalea, Deputy Chairman MAS Holdings and Chairman JAAF, Aroon Hirdaramani Group Director Hirdramani, Head Futre Leaders JAAF, and Jorn Rohde Ambassador of Germany.
