Students of government medical faculties will resume their academic activities from November 20 in the wake of the SAITM issue being satisfactorily solved, Medical Faculty Student’s Action Committee (MFSAC) convener Ryan Jayalath told Daily Mirror.

We called off the boycott after a discussion with Deputy Minister Harsha de Silva

He said though there were anti-SAITM protests carried out by the Inter University Students’ Federation, the MFSAC, parents and several other groups were called of on November 8, they would continue their struggle until SAITM was totally abolished.    “We called off the boycott after a discussion with Deputy Minister Harsha de Silva, who said the government would abolish SAITM before December 31 this year and continue the ban on recruiting in new students to SAITM. It is on that assurance that we decided to attend lectures,” Mr. Jayalath said.

The students had boycotted lectures for nearly 11 months urging the government to resolve the SAITM issue.
