Two Grama Niladharies were arrested by the Nikaweratiya Intelligence Unit Officers on Saturday on charges of being in possession of an amulet and two ivory pendants alleged to have been made from the dalaputtuwa’s tusks.  

 

When questioned, the two suspects said they had purchased the pendants  and the amulet from the Herathgama Grama Niladhari, who has been  identified as the chief suspect involved in removing dalaputtuwa’s tusks after it was shot dead

The two suspects, working at the Polpitigama Divisional Secretariat and the two pendants and the amulet recovered from them, were handed over to the Police for further investigations.  


Police personnel lead by Intelligence Unit OIC Inspector Dissanayake are conducting investigations on the instructions of SP Sanjeeva Bandara of the Nikaweratiya Police Division.  When questioned, the two suspects said they had purchased the pendants and the amulet from the Herathgama Grama Niladhari, who has been identified as the chief suspect involved in removing dalaputtuwa’s tusks after it was shot dead.  


So far ten suspects have been arrested and later remanded in this connection. Investigations have revealed that the Herathgama Grama Niladhari had been involved in killing of several other tuskers as well.
