Low pressure area reportedly heading towards India

As the low pressure area in the South-West Bay of Bengal seas is moving further away from Sri Lanka, the Meteorology Department yesterday said it is expecting the effect for the country to be lessen gradually.   

According to the weather satellites the low pressure area was moving towards north-northwestward direction in the Bay of Bengal sea area and was located nearly 850km to the North-east of Trincomalee by last evening.   


Hence the Meteorology Department Director General K. H. M. S. Premalal said country could expect a fair weather however is important to remain in alert further as the weather conditions can deteriorate suddenly.   Accordingly, showers or thundershowers would occur at few places in the Uva, Sabaragamuwa, Central and Southern provinces and in the Ampara districts after 2.00 p.m while temporary localized strong winds expected during thundershowers. Also gusty winds could be experienced at times in Western, Sabaragamuwa, Central, Southern provinces and also in Ampara District.   However, the warning issued to the naval and fishing communities were further extended and the Eastern seas from 300 km off the coast would be rough and unsafe.
