The printing of term test papers of schools in the Western Province has become a mafia, JVP Western Provincial Councillor Lakshman Nipuna Arachchi said on Tuesday while speaking at the Budget debate of the Western Provincial Council.

“The question papers from Year 6 to 11 are printed by a private company. This very institute prints a model question paper book every year. An awareness programme is also launched to promote this book. The question papers in the book are similar to those of the following term test.

Furthermore, the papers used for printing are of low quality. There is no numerical order of pages. The Education Minister says ordering the numbers is a tedious task. But we pay for them. We believe the proprietor of this institute is a former Commissioner of Examinations. This is not education but a mafia. They are wasting hard-earned money of poor parents. We urge those responsible to take necessary action regarding this scam with the help of the Chief Minister,” he said.

The 2018 Budget was presented by Chief Minister Isura Devapriya on November 28 and the Budget debate, headed by Chairman Sunil Wijeratna, was held in the Provincial Council Auditorium at Denzil Kobbekaduwa  Road, Battaramulla.
