Even after several decades these songs are still close to our hearts and veteran music director Sarath de Alwis and his orchestra did a wonderful job by dishing out the musical treat.

Bharath Lanka Kala Padanama Chairman Kesaralal Gunasekara, an ardent music lover, in his brief address thanked those who helped this show that was held free of charge, with the sole intention of promoting wholesome music.

He said he anticipated more sponsorships for future programmes and expressed his gratitude to all those who sang and played vital roles to make it a success.

The event was anchored by veteran Hema Nalin Karunaratne and Sneha Wasundara who both kept the audience alive, never giving them a dull moment.

Seasoned campaigner Sam Samarasinghe was the chief organizer of the event.

Among those who sang the beautiful evergreen Hindi oldies were Dev Shyaman Priyankara, Sunil Dhamarwardana, Sanjaya Hemal, Sithara Madushani, Ishani Siriwardana, Chamini Siriwardana, Deshani Vithanage, Arosha Samaradivakara, Fathima Ramzina and Sandaru Priyanwada Chandrasiri.

The maiden Pushpanjali concert was held in 2013 focusing on renowned Indian musician Pyarelal Sharma to coincide with his birthday. Pushpanjali 2 came as a tribute to Shankar-Jaikishan. The next was a programme focusing on the works of S. D. Burman and R. D. Burman. Last year’s show spotlighted on O. P. Nayyar and Usha Khanna.  – RU
