Award ceremony of Colombo Beautification Unit

CITY-DM-6-10An award ceremony organised by the Megapolis and Western Development Ministry was held on Monday at the Water’s Edge to appreciate the committed service rendered by the Colombo Beautification Unit (CBU) in managing garbage collection within Colombo City limits.


The CBU was given a special task to address the garbage matters in the Commercial city Colombo and resolve the catastrophic situation occurred following the Meethotamulla garbage dump collapse.


During the event non academic staff were also awarded along with the officials and the officers who supported the initiative.


Addressing the event Megapolis and Western Development Minister Champika Ranawaka said that even though there is a social belief that the government employees were bribe seekers and lazy in works, the CBU work force from top to bottom had dedicated themselves to maintain a garbage fee city of Colombo.


He said CBU was backed by the security forces and said both of their team effort created to establish a clean city. Deputy Minister Lasantha Alagiyawanna, IGP Pujith Jayasundara, Colombo Municipal Commissioner V.K.Anura participted at the event.


The CBU carried short term and effective strategies in Colombo city limits to identify the piling garbage issues and to find solutions to the issue. Their positive effort has contributed in minimising the spreading of dengue.
