MB_1A copy of the Bond Commission’s report had been handed over to Central Bank Governor Indrajit Coomaraswamy by the Secretary to the President Austin Fernando on Wednesday (10), the Central Bank said yesterday.

In a statement, it said a copy of the report of the Presidential Commission of Inquiry (PCoI) to Investigate, Inquire and Report on the Issuance of Treasury Bonds during the period February 1, 2015 to March 31, 2016, was handed over to the Governor entrusting him with the task of deciding whether to give effect to the recommendations contained in the Report.

“The Central Bank (CB) has already implemented some of the recommendations therein, while measures have already been initiated to implement most of the other recommendations as well. The Monetary Board has consulted the Attorney General, as appropriate, the actions it has taken. It considers it appropriate to keep the public informed of the status of action and initiatives that have to be or are being taken on the recommendations made in the Report and to generally improve transparency in the management of public debt and the Employees’ Provident Fund (EPF).

The report is being studied and the Monetary Board will initiate further actions, as appropriate,” the statement said.
