Five petitions filed by the Sri Lanka Podujana Peramuna against the rejection of nomination lists handed over for Panadura and Weligama Urban Councils and Agalawaththa, Mahiyanganaya, and Thirappane Pradeshiya Sabahs were rejected by the Supreme Court yesterday without taking them up for trial.

The courts had indicated that there was insufficient evidence to take them up for trial. These petitions were rejected when they were taken up before a bench comprising of Judges K.T.Chithrasiri, Buvaneka Aluvihare and Vijith Malalgoda.

When the petitions were called, the Deputy Solicitor General Viveka De Silva Siriwardene who appeared on behalf of the Attorney General stated that a similar fundamental rights petition submitted against the rejection of the nominations to the Maharagama Urban Council had been rejected by the Supreme Court and she requested courts to reject these petitions also in line with the said Supreme court’s decision.
