If parliamentarian Ravi Karunanayake does not resign from his post of UNP assistant leader, the party’s working committee will meet to decide on the steps to be taken, a senior UNPer said yesterday.   Ravi-Karunanayake-(12)

He told the Dailymirror that many in the working committee and the party hierarchy believed that Mr. Karunanayake must keep away from party activities until his name was cleared in the event of legal action being instituted.

“The Tilak Marapone-committee appointed by Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe has made some strong recommendations on how the party must act on this matter,” the source said.

He said party leader, Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe has clearly expressed his views on this matter and has politely asked Mr. Karunanayake to stay away from party work and in particular from the UNP’s LG polls campaign.

“The UNP hierarchy and the working committee members believe Mr. Karunanayake will resign from the party post he holds no sooner General Secretary and Minister Kabir Hashim issues his statement on this matter,” the source said.
