The SLFP yesterday filed a writ petition in Court seeking to quash the nomination papers of the Sri Lanka Podujana Peramuna and Janasetha Peramuna (JP) for the Attanagalle PS.

SLFP General Secretary Duminda Dissanayake and two others filed the petition citing Elections Commission, the Returning Officer, candidates contesting under the Janasetha Peramuna and the Sri Lanka Podujana Peramuna ticket and some others as respondents.

They said the 5th respondent K.H. Lakmal Dayaratne was actively involved in Attanagalle in both political parties with the connivance of the political leadership of the Janasetha Peramuna and Sri Lanka Podujana Peramuna had deceived the Elections Commission and the public.

They said the 5th respondent had acted in a fraudulent manner in gross violation of the LG Elections Act.

They said the nomination lists of both parties did not have the required number of candidates and as such the nomination papers were illegal.
