Ed Sheeran 'asked to perform at the Royal Wedding after being personally invited by Prince Harry'

He previously showed interest in performing at Prince Harry and Meghan Markle’s wedding. And Ed Sheeran might have landed the dream gig as the 26 year-old singer has reportedly been asked to sing at the highly anticipated Royal nuptials scheduled in May. According to Us Weekly, the Perfect hit-maker has already been approached by Prince Harry to help the couple celebrate their big day.

The source told the publication: ‘Prince Harry has personally requested Ed to perform at his wedding’. Royal wedding fever has been revving up since the engagement announcement was made in November, with the Shape of You singer being hotly tipped to perform since the exciting news broke.

While it’s not known whether he’s agreed to the gig, the idea of playing at the Royal event has crossed Ed’s mind before. After receiving his MBE from Prince Charles in December, Ed was quizzed about whether he would say yes to if he was asked to perform on the big day.

When asked if he’d like to sing for Charles’ son and the former Suits actress at their ceremony at Windsor Chapel next May – he said: ‘Yeah, why not.’ It was not the first time Ed has been singled out as a potential musical act – telling KIIS FM in December that he would play ‘If I was free’.

Life-1-4‘I get asked this all the time like I know the Royal family. I’ve met Harry once -  that was in 2011 at his grans’ Jubilee, and it was like, ‘Hey.’ ‘Hey’… I barely know him!’ he continued.

MailOnline have contacted representatives for Ed Sheeran and Kensington Palace for comment.  In December, Ed appeared to make some good headway getting into the newly-engaged Royal’s good books – after helping Harry raise money for charity.

The Grammy-winning artiste recently signed Jamie Lawson to his label Gingerbread Man Records, who released a charity single for Walking With The Wounded – an organisation that Prince Harry is patron of.

His connections to the Royal Family don’t stop there as he reportedly had his face sliced by Princess Beatrice at a party last November as she mock-knighted James Blunt with a sword.
Ed isn’t the only British artist to potentially throw his hat into the ring, with Sam Smith, 25, also showing interest in helping the Prince and his actress beauty celebrate their big day. But on Wednesday, the Stay With Me crooner confirmed that he won’t be lending his vocal prowess to the upcoming Royal nuptials, which happens to be on the same day as his birthday.

In an interview with Australia’s KIIS FM’s Kyle And Jackie O, the singer-songwriter told the breakfast duo: ‘That would be amazing, but no, that’s definitely not happening.’
