SLFP Ministers say no to Ranil as Prime Minister at Cabinet Meeting:

President Maithripala Sirisena has told UNP Ministers and party leadership to resolve the controversy related to the party leadership before Friday (tomorrow) at the Cabinet meeting held yesterday, Co – Cabinet Spokesman Dayasiri Jayasekera said.

The President has also said that the ‘Yahapalana Government’ could not continue like this and therefore a speedier solution to the dispute was vital.


The Cabinet met after a few weeks yesterday Chaired by President Maithripala Sirisena. The proposed two committees from the UNP and the SLFP were not appointed to look into the dispute as expected, Minister Jayasekera added.

 

If the UNP failed to come up with a solution agreeable to the SLFP, we have decided to carry out our own game plan in respect of the future of the Yahapalana Government 


“We, the SLFP Ministers in the Cabinet confirmed our position that we couldn’t support a coalition Government with Ranil Wickremesinghe as the Prime Minister. 


“If the UNP failed to come up with a solution agreeable to the SLFP, we have decided to carry out our own game plan in respect of the future of the Yahapalana Government,” Minister Jayasekera said.
Minister Jayasekera also said that any important decisions were not discussed or passed at yesterday’s Cabinet meeting.
