Documents pertaining to payments made by Mendis Distilleries Ltd. owned by Arjun Aloysius of Perpetual Treasuries Ltd to a set of MPs from the government and the opposition is in the possession of President Maithripala Sirisena, Deputy Minister Ranjan Ramanayake said yesterday.

Mr Ramanayake told journalists that Aloysious had made these payments to the MPs by cheque. “There would be a huge outcry in the country if the names of these MPs were revealed” he said.

The MP said the choice made by Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe to appoint Arjuna Mahendran as the Central Bank Governor was wrong. Prime Minister Wickremesinghe made a wrong choice but he should not be blamed for the bond scam as he was not involved in it, Mr. Ramanayake re-iterated.
