The Military Attaché of the Sri Lanka High Commission in London Brigadier Priyankara Fernando had been summoned to Sri Lanka by Army Commander Lt. General Mahesh Senanayake to get first-hand information from him on what happened on February 4th in front of the Sri Lanka High Commission in London, The Army said yesterday.

Brigadier Fernando has been called back by the Army Commander to know the circumstances that led to the controversy

“Brigadier Fernando has been called back by the Army Commander to know the circumstances that led to the controversy after LTTE sympathizers demonstrated in front of the Sri Lanka High Commission in London on February 4th and after he made a gesture to them,” Army Spokesman Brigadier Sumith Atapattu said at yesterday’s weekly Cabinet news briefing.

“This is not in any way a punishment or demotion to him but only to know firsthand what happened. The Army believes that Brig. Fernando has not done anything wrong,” Brig. Atapattu added. “There is no disciplinary action either against him,” Brigadier Atapattu added.
