The newly built Disaster Management Centre (DMC) complex at Galudupita in Ragama had been vandalized by an unidentified mob, the Mahabage Police said.
They said the restrooms, doors and windows had been damaged severely by the mob.

The DMC Centre which was constructed at a cost of Rs. 10 million, remained closed, with an opening date scheduled in the near future.

The venue where the centre was built had previously been used as a playground by the youth in the area. When Tourism Promotion and Christian Affairs Minister John Amaratunga laid the foundation stone for the project, he was hooted at by the residents.

Despite this, the minister went ahead with the plan and laid the foundation stone for the DMC.

However, the construction company later continued with this project.

Mahabage Police OIC IP Bandara said they have not yet received a complaint about the damage of property.
