The timid nature of the government had made things worse in Kandy, a government MP told Parliament yesterday.

UNP MP S. M. Marikar who was speaking during an adjournment debate in Parliament last evening said the timid nature and its reluctance to make bold decisions had resulted in the tense situation in Kandy.

“If the present administration cannot control the situation and cannot not take decisions in a bold way it is better for it to sit in the opposition ,”Mr. Marikar said.

“There is no point in waving at a bus when it is gone pass you,” he added.   He charged that there are false heroes who post false information on social media.

UNP MP Mujibur Rahman who also criticized the government said some in the government had helped those who had unleashed communal violence instead of putting them behind bars. “ B report charges of some who were accused of unleashing violence were changed creating loop holes for them to escape the law,” Mr. Rahman said.

“ We thought that minorities will be able to live peacefully under the present regime and we now understand that it is not so,” he added.
