The exposure made by the Daily Mirror on the dilapidated state of the Mount Lavinia Railway Station has drawn the attention of the Railways Department, that immediately launched a project to renovate the building.
A large number of workers were being deployed to attend repairs to the worn out iron pillars that dates back to the time of the British rule and to lay the floor tiles.

Employees of the railway station thanked the media for exposing the long overdue renovations of the railway station building which had been ignored by the authorities despite continual representations. They pointed out the need to maintain the railway station in the best possible manner located in a popular tourist destination.
