In a bid to introduce far-reaching changes of the UNP, the Parliamentary Group, the Working Committee and other stalwarts of the party would meet next Saturday and Sunday (7 and 8) to work out the re-organization mechanism of the party, Cabinet Spokesman and Lands and Parliamentary Reform Minister Gayantha Karunathilaka said.

He told the weekly Cabinet news briefing in Parliament yesterday that the reorganization process of the UNP was scheduled to be completed by April 30and added the reorganization would be completed before May.

Minister Senaratne said the No-Confidence Motion was a blessing in disguise to the UNP as the party has been strengthened and united as never before but there was a collective demand by backbenchers to drive away all SLFPers, who acted against the Prime Minister and the UNP.

“The young UNP members urge Prime Minister Wickremesinghe to form a Unity Government without SLFP Ministers, who criticized, insulted and protested against him. That will happen before long,” Minister Karunathilaka said.

He added that the new UNP would form a new Government with all members who like to go ahead with the Unity Government and fulfil the aspirations of the people who were with the Unity Government.

Responding to a journalist, Minister Karunathilaka said the UNP-led Unity Government was ready to welcome any patriotic, people-friendly member who is ready to serve the people including the TNA.
