JVP MP Bimal Ratnayake said yesterday Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe had not only protected fraudsters but also obstructed investigations on the Bond Scam and the UNP COPE members obstructed the investigations of the COPE.

He told Parliament that the Prime Minister deserved a No-Confidence Motion as he had acted against the mandate.

“The NCM against the Premier was justifiable as he had betrayed his mandate. The Government promised to put an end to corrupt Rajapaksa regime. But it acted to protect the fraudsters. This Government was brought into power not only by the vote of the UNPers but also by the civil society groups, JVP and professionals who played a key role. We will vote in favour of the motion, whatever the motives of the factions that brought it may be,” he said. Speaking during the debate on the NCM against the Prime Minister, he said the Government had ruined the term Good Governance as people had been let down of the assurance to ensure corruption-free rule.

Mr Ratnayake said several other allegations such as failing to address university students’ issues, fertilizer issue and selling of State resources should also be included in the motion.

He said the idea of an NCM against the Prime Minister was first introduced by President Maithripala Sirisena after the defeat at the Local Government Elections.

The deal with Ranil Wickremesinghe and Mahinda Rajapaksa is clear. Rajapaksas did not even try to win this motion

“The President asked the PM to resign and even planned to get the majority in Parliament with the support of the Rajapaksa faction. Having failed every attempt, they gave it up. Then the pro-Gotabhaya group that was eyeing power brought in this motion again. If Rajapaksa faction wanted to bring it, they could have done it earlier,” he said.

He said former President Mahinda Rajapaksa also betrayed his mandate as he did not do anything towards winning the No-Confidence Motion.

“The deal with Ranil Wickremesinghe and Mahinda Rajapaksa is clear. Rajapaksas did not even try to win this motion. This is brought in by Gotabhaya faction and Maithri group,” JVP MP Bimal Ratnayake said.`
