Only Field Marshal Sarath Fonseka was assigned a portfolio on a scientific basis at the Cabinet reshuffle, MP Namal Rajapaksa said.

He said those who had described Minister Fonseka as a “Kalawadda” or a Common Palm Civet had given him the Wildlife Ministry.

The MP said Vijith Vijayamuni Soysa had been assigned the ministry of fisheries and aquatic resources development whereas he did not have any access to the sea .  He said the Government had assured it would assign portfolios on a scientific basis but to do so a separate committee should be appointed in the first place to formulate a scientific criteria to appoint Cabinet minsters.

The MP said President Maithripala Sirisena and Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe would say that the Cabinet was appointed by a committee and that a separate committee would have to be appointed to determine the scientific selection process.   He said this exercise was a time consuming process being carried out as a pretext to remain in power for the remaining 18 months and was of little of no use or benefit to the masses.   The MP said it was wrong for the Government to mislead the people by changing faces and portfolios of the Cabinet ministers.
