The SLFP Group of 16 who sat in the Opposition benches in Parliament after resigning from their posts has decided to hold a series of public meetings in the country.

Fifteen MPs resigned from the ministerial posts and Thilanga Sumathipala did so from the post of Deputy Speaker after voting in favour of the no-confidence motion against Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe last month.
The first of the meetings which would be held by the group under the theme of “Our Conscience” will be held in the Matale District, Parliamentarian Lakshman Yapa Abeywardena said.

The purpose of these meetings is to create awareness among the people about the current political situation and the circumstances that compelled them to sit in the Opposition in parliament.

We have to give the people a correct view of our decision, Abeywardena further said.
