Rs.15 Mn fraud Police seek your help to arrest woman suspect

The Police yesterday released the picture of a 50-year-old woman, who was wanted in connection with a financial fraud amounting to more than Rs.15 million.  

 Police Spokesman Ruwan Gunasekera said the woman is alleged to have issued several dud cheques to shop owners and had gone into hiding with the police looking out to arrest her.   

He said the woman has been operating a dress boutique in Mount Lavinia and had issued the cheques to pay for the dresses she had bought from various businessmen.   

SP Gunasekera said at least 24 complaints against this woman had been received at the Mount Lavinia Police Station and the Mount Lavinia Special Crimes Investigation Unit in connection with the dishonoured cheques amounting to Rs.8.6 million.   

The Mount Lavinia Magistrate’s Court had issued a warrant for the arrest of this woman while the CID had filed a case in the Panadura Magistrate’s Court in 2017 against this woman in connection with a fraud of Rs.6.9 million.   
The woman named, Dona Sithara Geethani Kaluarachchi, the holder of NIC No: 687611799V has been residing at No. 6, Uyana Road, Moratuwa and at No.194/31, Thalgahahena Road, Kesbewa.   

The Police request the public to inform the Mount Lavinia Special Crimes Investigation Unit on 0112-2729621 or the Mount Lavinia Police HQI on 071-8591664, if they had any information on this woman.
