The live show will indeed be a spectacular event and a ‘Must’ for all those who love their music. Boney M is a truly unforgettable name in the history of music. This much loved group came together in 1976 and ever since then occupied a special place in the hearts of music lovers the world over. Frank Farian (or Franz Reuther) who was a famous record producer formed the original line of Boney M with Liz Mitchell, Maizie Williams, Marcia Barrett and Bobby Farrell.

Although Boney M officially disbanded in 1986, a vast array of line-ups have kept the name alive as a touring entity. Liz Mitchell has been back in the fold for the past couple of years and she will be taking centre stage when Boney M performs at the SLECC in Colombo this June.

Although Boney M made modest beginnings, their music soon turned into major hits with their catchy and toe tapping beats. As most of their music was lively and had a lot of rhythm, it was played at all discos and dancing parties in those days of the Disco era.  It’s impossible to deny that their feel-good party albums gave pleasure to a great many people.

Don’t miss Boney M Live in Sri Lanka ft Liz Mitchell and the official full Live Band on the 16th of June at SLECC

Boney M’s music has influences of Reggae, Funk, Rock, Disco and even Gospel so they were successful in reaching out to an extensive audience.  Boney M became a sensation then, and their music is still enjoyed by many.

1978 was a hugely successful year for the Euro-Caribbean band who appeared to come from nowhere.  ‘Rivers of Babylon’, ‘Brown Girl in the Ring’ and ‘Mary’s Boy Child’ released in 1978 – went on to be some of the bestselling singles in the UK during that decade. ‘Rasputin’ one of their global-conquering smash hits was also released in the same year and was the third single on the Night flight to Venus album. When Bobby Farrell died at the age of 61 from heart failure on December 30th, 2010, a strange coincidence was that several of the obituaries noted that Farrell died in the very city where Grigori Rasputin also met his end.

What a diverse collection of songs Boney M produced! Don’t miss this one of kind performance that’ll have your toes tapping throughout, and who knows, you might even want to get up from your seat and dance.
