Plot hatched by child’s father in England

An 8-month-old infant that had been abducted from his home in Vavuniya, allegedly on a contract given by his father living in the United Kingdom had been found in Pudukuduirippu, Mullaitivu by the Pudukuduirippu Police on Saturday. 

This infant had been taken away from its mother on May 31 by three unknown persons who entered their home situated on Good Shed Road in Vavuniya.   

According to Pudukudiirippu Police, the owner of the house where the infant was found, identified as Muhudan Kanchani and the woman who had brought the child to her Kumari Sobani (38) had been arrested first.   

The father of the baby who is in England is said to have paid Rs.1.5 million to a resident in the Pudukuduirippu area to abduct the baby following a dispute that he had with his wife, the baby’s mother.   

The person who undertook the contract to abduct the baby, identified as Rajagopal Chandragopal (32), was also nabbed by the police.   

Police investigations revealed that the father of the baby was a former LTTE cadre who had fled to England about 10 years ago. He had wanted the baby to be brought to England to live with him.
