Commenting on the statement made by State Minister Sujeewa Senasinghe that he was prepared to return the money that was given to him by a company affiliated to Perpetual Treasuries Ltd head, Arjun Aloysius, a Working Committee member of the United National Party (UNP) said yesterday that the State Minister could not absolve himself of his act by returning the money he obtained in what he termed as an “underhand transaction”.
Priyantha Pathberiya, who is also a Colombo District organiser of the UNP, said at a media briefing in Athurugiriya organised by the “Kaduwela Anti-corruption Movement” that if one person could absolve himself by returning what he had received, all others in the county would follow suit when they were arrested.

He said that Senasinghe should be sacked as a Minister as well as the UNP, for accepting money from a tainted business.

Senasinghe came to Colombo to study law. We would like to know as to how such a person has amassed such  wealth to build hotels and own large swathes of land

He called on President Maithripala Sirisena and Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe to expose those Parliamentarians, who had been associated with the fraudulent bond transaction, in order to cleanse the good name of other members of Parliament.

“Senasinghe came to Colombo to study law. We would like to know as to how such a person has amassed such  wealth to build hotels and own large swathes of land,” Priyantha Pathberiya said.

“To our knowledge, one cannot acquire such  wealth with the salary of a Member of Parliament,” he said.
