Fraudulent broker arrested with large stock of gems

An individual posing as a broker who had obtained a stock of gems valued more than Rs. 3.38 million, belonging to a gem merchant in Beruwala, and avoided the gem merchant, was arrested by the Tangalle Police. 

Following a complaint made by the gem merchant from Beruwala, Police who initiated investigations of the alleged fraud, arrested the suspect and recovered the stock of gems that had been hidden in his house in the Nalagama area.  . A senior police official said the stock of gems weighing 12,200 carats had been put in bottles and buried.  

OIC Tangalle Division Special Investigation Unit IP D.I. Prasanna Kumara, PCs 46594 Jagath , 40691 Gunasekara, 70008 Anura and 74630 Sampath conducted investigations on the instructions of SP Laksiri Geethal and arrested the suspect.
