Sharmal Dissanayake advanced into the second-round of the Sri Lanka F1 Futures Tennis Tournament with a comfortable win against Thales Turuni of Brazil in a first-round encounter played at the SLTA Courts in Green Path, Colombo yesterday.

Even then, Sharmal had to put in all his efforts to win the first set before his opponent pulled out midway in the second set due to an injury.

Dissanayake was the only Sri Lankan to win his match as the other two players Dineshkanthan Thangarajah and Yasitha de Silva suffered defeats against Abhinav Sanjeev Shanmugam of India and Pruchya Isaro of Thailand respectively.

Meanwhile, the top seed David Perez Sanz of Spain bowed out of contention when he was defeated by the unseeded Tyler Mercier of the USA.
