Police Media Spokesman SP Ruwan Gunasekara yesterday instructed the motorists to pay their traffic spot fines to the nearest District Secretariats (DS) due to the ongoing postal strike.

Speaking to Daily Mirror he said it was informed that motorists were inconvenienced due to the current postal strike, however by law they are permitted to pay the fines to the DS.

SP Gunasekara said if the fine date exceeds 14 days from the issuance of the charge sheet according to Motor Traffic Act amendment 2017 motorists will receive another 14 days but fine amount will be doubled.

Therefore, he said that motorists should not refrain from paying their fines on time by citing the postal strike as an excuse as the District Secretariats are not on strike.   Country’s postal services are at a standstill for its fourth day today due to the indefinite strike launched by postal workers demanding to amend recruitment procedure.
