Untitled-1Founded in the aftermath of the tsunami in December 2004, the Sunshine Charity takes care of children affected by this disaster in addition to orphaned children and those affected by poverty. Through the establishment of a daycare centre in Sambalthivu, Trincomalee the charity provides these children with not only their basic needs like nutritional food and clothing but more importantly provides creative opportunities, medical and health care, pharmaceutical drugs, worming treatment, foot wear to prevent worm infection, learning skills and educational tools.

Managed by five trustees including Sharadha de Saram, Roshan Peries, Kamini Mukunthan, Ishviyan de Saram and Tesalia de Saram, the charity is fuelled by donations and funds collected through fundraisers.
In addition to taking care of the children, the Charity has empowered members of staff through teacher training programmes, which have encouraged them to be engaging, committed and understanding of the children’s needs.

The Sunshine Charity has also conducted numerous workshops for the mothers of the children on oral hygiene, nutritional needs and medical programmes with follow-up advice. Through its programmes, the organisation seeks to strengthen the capacity and improve the lives of the children served.

This year, the Charity presents a musical recital by three eminent musicians including British violinist Ashan Pillai, pianist Juan Carlos Conelles and Mezzo soprano Joana Thomé. Works of Bach, Brahms and Glinka will be performed and the organisers invite all classical music lovers to be a part of this evening. Guests will also get a chance to meet and greet the performers post performance at The Flamingo House.
