Sri Lanka held the touring Lithuania Combined Team to a nil-all draw in their international friendly football encounter worked off under lights at the Racecourse Grounds in Reid Avenue yesterday.
The match got off to a quiet start with both teams trying to consolidate their position and as a result they missed out on a number of scoring opportunities in the first half.

In the second half Lithuania looked the better side as they created more goal scoring opportunities but once again they failed to add the finishing touches.  Overall, Sri Lanka came close of scoring a goal on four occasions while the visitors missed out as many as five scoring opportunities.

Sri Lanka’s goal-keeper Sujan Perera gave an outstanding performance and prevented Lithuania from scoring a goal.

The only setback for Sri Lanka was when Mohamed Afeel was handed a yellow card by Referee Dilan Perera in the first half.

Sri Lanka Coach Nizam Pakeerali was pleased with the team’s performances and said everything went according to plan.

He said that this result will change the mindset of the players and will also give them the confidence to face their upcoming fixtures.

Sri Lanka Skipper Subash Madushan said that his team defended too much in the first half and missed out on few chances.

He also said that the conditions under lights were not helpful to the players as they were playing an international match after a lapse of two years at home.

Lithuania will play their second match against the Sri Lanka ‘B’ Squad on Wednesday (11) at the same venue.
