The celebrated stage play ‘Thala Mala Pipila’  scripted and produced by award-winning dramatist Jayalath Manorathne will mark its 30th anniversary this year. Thala Mala Pipila will be staged at the Maharagama Youth Centre Auditorium on July 21 to coincide with this milestone.

Untitled-1The staging organized by the past pupils association of Poramadulla Madhya  Maha Vidyalaya will set aside the 3 pm show for students free of charge while the 7 pm show will be open to the public.
The play has been staged in all parts of Sri Lanka and also in several other countries.

This is seen as a significant achievement by Sri Lankan standards, given the basic facilities under which theatre artistes and productions are made and staged. Stage plays like Prof. Sarachchandra’s ‘Maname’ and ‘Sinhabahu’, Dayananda Gunawardana’s ‘Naribena and Jasaya Saha Lenchina’ , Henry Jayasena’s ‘Hunuwataye Kathawa’ and ‘Kuweni’ are still being staged largely because they were acknowledged by the masses. Thala Mala Pipila centres around the catastrophe brewing in the village and family structures, largely due to the distancing and gradual disregard to aspects like traditional social values, literature, arts and cultural facets.
