Joint opposition MP Prasanna Ranaweera  made a statement before the Parliament Privilege Committee(PPC) chaired by Minister Thilak Marapana in connection with the tense situation in parliament over former minister Vijayakala Maheswaran’s statement regarding the LTTE.

The MP told Daily Mirror that he was questioned, based on a video clip of the incident reported in Parliament, and that he explained what had happened.

He said it was regrettable that disciplinary action was taken against an MP for protesting against someone who had made a pro-LTTE statement while there was no action taken against Ms. Wijayakala for making such a statement.
Chief Opposition Whip Anura Kumara Dissanyake, MP Douglas Devananda, Susil Premajayantha and Minister Ranjith Madduma Bandara represented the privilege committee.

MP Ranaweera was summoned to appear before the Parliament Privilege Committee yesterday over his unruly behaviour in Parliament recently where he allegedly attempted to snatch the mace.
