Joint Opposition MP Dinesh Gunawardane yesterday asked in parliament how several officials could revoke the ban on glyphosate which was imposed on a cabinet decision and asked the subject minister to present the Gazette notification in parliament claiming that it was nowhere to find. He told parliament that the ban on glyphosate was imposed following a cabinet decision considering its harmful nature on humans and added that it had been revoked on the need of several officials.

“It is a serious move to remove the ban imposed by a cabinet decision without obtaining a cabinet approval. The Gazette notification is no where to be found. We urge the government to present it in parliament,” he said.   MP Ven.  Athuraliye Rathana Thera said it was the duty of the speaker to make the Gazette notification available in the House for all the MPs and asked who signed the Gazette notification.
