Two George Keyt paintings worth Rs. 12 Mn missing

The Criminal Investigation Department (CID) yesterday sought public assistance to locate two paintings worth more than Rs. 12 million of veteran artist George Keyt, which were 
stolen in 2013.   

Police said the two paintings, ‘Mother and Child’ and ‘Vasanthi’ had been missing since 12 July, 2013 from the office of a leading company located at No 130, Glennie Street in Colombo 2, at that time.   

The two paintings were stolen while the office premises were being relocated during that time.    The ‘ Mother and Child’ which was an oil on canvas painting, was done in 1953 while the ‘Vasanthi’ painting was done in 1950 by the distinguished painter George Keyt.   

Police requests the public to inform the Financial Crimes Investigation Unit of the CID via 0112- 395248 if they have any information with regard to the suspects or the paintings.   

George Keyt, born on 17th April  1901, died on July 31, 1993 in Colombo.
