The Kuwaiti couple, who were arrested by the Airport Police at the Bandaranaike International Airport (BIA) for allegedly assaulting five customs officials, has been granted bail by the court.   
The couple were given bail after being produced in the Negombo Magistrate’s Court. 


They were released on two surety bails of Rs.100, 000 each and ordered to appear in Court today (30).   


Five officials of the Customs Department including a female guard were hospitalized on Friday after they were allegedly assaulted by the couple who were requested to quarantine their pet dog.   
The Kuwaiti couple were unwilling to proceed with the animal quarantine regulations and had attempted to forcibly exit the BIA Arrival Lounge along with their pet dog. 


When Customs officials tried to stop them the couple had reacted violently by assaulting the officials injuring several of them. 


The female guard was said to be in a serious condition as her neck had been injured after receiving a kick to her face by the female Kuwaiti national.   


The couple had tried to smuggle in their Bernese Mountain Dog without it being subjected to mandatory quarantine procedures at the airport.
