Speaker Karu Jayasuriya yesterday received the review report on the Provincial Councils election system prepared by the People’s Action for Free and Fair Elections (PAFFREL).
The report was handed over to the Speaker by PAFFREL Executive Director Rohana Hettiarachchi.

Speaking to Daily Mirror, Mr. Hettiarachchi said the report consisting over 1,000 pages proposed solutions for common issues faced during Provincial Council elections, but it failed to address critical fields such as delimitation to avoid polls from being delayed further.

“The report proposes solutions for basic issues such as governance. It had been prepared based on studies carried out by PAFFREL and the Centre for Monitoring Election Violence (CMEV). The report was presented to the Speaker to be distributed among party leaders to get their inputs on amendments to the Act. A copy of the report was also presented to Provincial Councils Minister Faiszer Musthapha on Tuesday,” he said.
Deputy Elections Commissioner M.M. Mohammed, CMEV National Coordinator Manjula Gajanayake and Asian Network for Free Elections (ANFREL) Executive Director Chandanie Watawala were also present at the occasion.
