A committee had been appointed to set up the tender process to allocate communication units at the Lotus Tower, an official at the Telecommunication Regulatory Commission of Sri Lanka (TRCSL) said yesterday.

Initial reports of the tower stated that facilities could be provided for 50 television service providers, 50 broadcast service providers and 10 communication providers.

The work on the interior of the tallest building in Sri Lanka is ongoing with 60 to 70 per cent of the landscaping being completed, as at present.

The building is constructed at an expense of USD 104 mn. 80 per cent of the cost is funded by the EXIM Bank of China.

Constructed on a 10-acre land, the tower is to be a hotspot for communication.

Office spaces, shopping malls, parks and parking facilities are to be provided on the first few floors, while the upper floors are to be provided specifically for telecommunication purposes.
When questioned if the tower, delayed in completion for well over two years, would be completed soon, the official stated that measures were being taken to complete the project within the year.
